Wood Species:

Oak  |  Brown Maple  |  Hickory  |  Quarter Sawn White Oak  |  Cherry  |  Walnut

Oak

Oak is the most commom hardwood. It is known for its wide grain pattern which tells a story of the tree's life. It is also the most economical of the hardwoods. Oak is most commonly sold with a Medium Oak stain (shown left) or an Old World Mission stain.

Brown Maple

Brown Maple is the traditional hardwood. It is one of the softer hardwoods, but not as soft as Cherry. It has a similar grain pattern to Cherry and naturally varies in color, bringing out alot of interesting detail and alot of character. Brown Maple has a very smooth surface and is our top choice for painting and distressing for that reason. Brown Maple is often seen painted or in a Chocolate Spice (seen left) or an Asbury Brown stain.

Hickory

The hardest of the hardwood family, Hickory is a nicely multi-colored wood. When ordering "Hickory" all knots and mineral stains are cutout. Hickory is commonly seen in a Natural stain (seen left).

Rustic Hickory

Rustic Hickory is when all knots and mineral stains are left in, which leaves no wood to waste. Rustic Hickory is left the way Mother Nature made it, and is full of character.

Quarter-Sawn White Oak

Quarter Sawn White Oak is made by taking the log and cutting it into 4 quarters, then those pieces are cut cross-grain to bring back the grain patterns of a century ago. Quarter Sawn Oak was seen widely in antique furniture. It is also known as Tiger Striped Oak due to its unusual grain patterns. Due to cutting this wood cross-grain, it will not warp or crack. This is most commonly sold with a Michael's Cherry stain (seen left) or a Medium Oak stain.

Cherry

The softest of the hardwoods, Cherry has traditionally been a favorite in upper-class homes, especially in formal dining rooms. It became popluar in the early 1900s when Mahogany was becoming hard to find. Cherry has all of the knots and mineral stains removed. Cherry is commonly sold with a Acres Cherry stain for a rich Mahogany look (seen left).

Rustic Cherry

Rustic Cherry has all of the knots and mineral stains left in. Many are surprised by Cherry's grain and all of its natural knots when left in. Rustic Cherry makes for a very unique piece of furniture with lots of character.

Walnut

Walnut is one of the hardest woods in the hardwood family. It has a nice natural variation of colors from almost black to a tan. Most of the colors fall in the chocolate family. It has a grain similar to Mahogany. Walnut is usually sold in a Natural stain (shown left). Sorry, but Walnut is not available in all furniture designs.
